Slippers With Wings

Suzie was three when she first blessed our home
We loved her as much as a child of our own
But her little legs were all twisted and frail
It was never mean for Suzie to be well

In her little bedtime prayer she would pray
Lord, I know you've been busy today
But when you get some time...oh, please, pretty please
Can I have some slippers with wings...

She loved to watch the kids on the playground near-by
They'd call Suzie's name she'd wave and say hi
Tiny teardrops would leave the window stained
But it wasn't like our Suzie to complain.

She just said to her brown puppy dog..
“Little Skippy, I know it won't be long
Till I run and play tag, like my friends
God's sending me pretty slippers with wings..

Suzie turned four and her tiny legs turned weak
Pain took it's tole and the color left her cheeks
Christmas Eve came and we prayed by Suzie's bed
I can still hear the last words that she said..

“Mommy, Mommie...here's a man dressed in white.
Daddy , look He is shiney and bright
And He's holdin' some ribbon and string
Around a pretty pair of slippers with wings”...

And if ever I was certain of one certain thing
